Miss Downton's Subway work

Q: Who did you chose to include in your advertising campaign and why. What was your chosen representation of these people?

A: For out advertising campaign we decided to use 3 different types of characters: the hippy, the Muslim girl and the rocker. We chose these characters because they all have bug differences with each other except one thing and that's subway, they all love subway. That's is also the reason we came up with the slogan "No matter who you are"
To represent subway as a food brand that everyone can enjoy.

Q: What decisions did you make which helped to construct this representation?

A: We decided that we didn't want the to make it over the top, we new the types of characters we wanted but we narrowed them down and made the image simple but memorable.

Q: How do you feel your chosen representation will support subways brand image?

A: I feel that out image will support the brand image because it's a positive image showing no matter what race, colour, Social background etc ever one bonds over a subway something everyone shares in common and that's why I believe it's the best image to use for your brand.

Horror movie codes and conventions

I watch the horror/comedy spoof film
Scary movie (as I am a scaredy cat).

Codes and conventions of this film:

Sacrifice lamb/Someone killed in first 5 mins - In scary movie the girl is alone at home getting ready to watch a scary movie and then get a phone call and get murdered, this sets the mood for the rest of the movie. We also get a glimpse of either the killer or his style of killing

Accidental trip while running away from killer - this is also done in this movie on many occasions to make the audience frustrated. It also makes sure that the victim dies

The fake scare - this is done many time in this movie e.g  at the beginning after the girl locks the back door the front door bell rings. Also the part where the girl checks her window and the boy pops up
This is to make the audience jump, this may happen before the actual murder so the audience doesn't expect the killer cause they thought it was a false alarm.

Investigating an unexpected sound - this is done to build tension and makes the audience afraid because they now what's going to happen next. this is also done on several occasions.

Abandoned/secluded location -  this is done in scary movie as when they are having a flash back on what happened a year ago they get stuck in the middle of a road and there's no one around. Gives audience a sense of alertness.

Character forgets about threat/ignores threat - they do this horror movies in order not only for the film to progress but also to make us as the audience feel something particular towards those characters

Victim cowers by door/ window - this is also done In scary movie. It also done so the victim can be killed and to show that the killer has no conscience or love just pure hatred.

Don't listen warning (signs) - this happens on many occasions. This  happens so that the audience feel over the edge.

Character being alone - usually the lest important characters die first so when they are alone we automatically as the audience know is going to happen next.

Lighting - in scary movie and in most other horror film the use of lighting is crucial, the lighting is usually dark and can't see much so it's mostly black.

Victims relating deaths to what they did - this is done in scary movie, the victim talks about how it's weird that a murder has happened exactly one year after they killed someone. This make the audience question the killers reasons but Also if the victims are realign victims

Phone line cut - this happens In many horror movies but not so much in scary movie, except the killer calls the person to tell them he knows what they done and hangs up

Running upstairs instead of outside -  this is done in scary movie when killer tries to murder one of the main characters. This is done to create tension but also to give character no way to escape.

HW Week 3

Part 1

Match on action:

Match on action is the technique that cuts from one shot to another view that is the same as the other.
the shot may have been taken at different times but it gives the impression that its that exact moment somewhere else. this technique creates the sense of continuity, "visual bridge" which distract the viewer away from the problem.

180 Degree rule :

180 degree rule is a guideline that actors in a scene should have the same left and right relationship
to each other. 180 degree is mostly used to convey a conversation between two people.

How the director engages with the audience in the narrative and characters of the film

Amelie :

The director in engages with the audience in the narrative by showing things which bring laughter e.g. The description of the exact time When the fly sat down on the street and got squished this is unnecessary and doesn't need to be known but grabs the audience's attention

Also engages with the audience by the visual (The picture) It was the middle/end of the sequence with the little girl Amelie
Is doing the type of things a little girl her age would do to keep themselves entertained. This also shows isolation because she's playing alone.

The soundtrack is another reason as it Sounds funny and very French and with the fast French narration it even funnier. But when the sequence shows her playing on her own it sounds sad and slow.

The director Engages with the audience in the characters by showing this little girl playing on her own and through the expressions and actions E.g.  The part when the narration explains why the man is a a erasing a contact - It's very funny and Realistic because either we have or will Have to do a erase a contact because the person is dead or gone Also the narrator is another reason why we engage with the characters because he is explaining everything.

The godfather :

The director engages With the audience in the narrative by having the voice of the character on before the picture is Shown This grabs the attention of the audience because we think we are being spoken directly to (non - diegtec/narration) But actually it is diegtec Because the characters are speaking to each other.

The positioning of the godfather also engages The audience because it says he is the main or head person.
Also in the action of the waving of the hand to get the man a drink show he has power and wealth.

The director engages with the audience by the characters with the lighting e.g. When the scene starts from back to on the Man's face when one light shining directly on him ( to make him the focus point but also to set the mood) that it is dark and sinister.

The soundtrack also engages the audience because it sounds lonely, dark and sinister which makes you relate it to the godfather.

Children Of Men Analysis

Children Of Men is based on the future where people can no longer reproduce.
from the clip we saw, we only saw 3 cuts, the camera mostly followed the main character (Clive Owen)  instead of cutting constantly, the camera did a 180 degree on character while he was putting alcohol in his cup. in the clip we saw there were only a few type of shots, MLS, LS and MS. when we saw the town we saw that there were Tv's on the building and moving adverts on buses - this proves that this film based on the future because we do not have such thing yet. we also saw the town was very polluted and looked slightly dark, this symbolises that times have changed, also the sky was not blue but more yellow which could suggest that not ono is there a lot of pollution and pollution has become a big problem but nothing is being done about. in terms of design everyone seemed to be in work clothing and the streets were very busy, which could suggest the population of people that remain still have to work.

Diegtec sound:
there was diegtec sound such as the news report having sad music behind the story to mark the last young persons death. also the sound of cars and people crying at the report were there.
also the reported sounded slightly emotional when reading the report

Sound FX:
there were some sound fx used such as the bomb going off and the buses and cars driving past

Design:
the design of the street is set out to show that we are in 2027 because there is televisions on building and the streets are busy and the colour of the sky is different.
